A Wee Bit About Shell and Lynn

Lynn

My journey began as a child when my grandfather, who raced greyhounds, brought home the dogs that could no longer race. We often joked he loved those dogs more than us grandchildren. He taught me to see the soul in each dog, a belief I hold to this day. My family never bought a pup; instead, we welcomed every stray and animal in need.

Rescuing my first dog, who had been severely abused, marked the start of my "real" journey into working with reactive dogs. I studied, gained qualifications, and left my job to immerse myself in this world. I spent my life savings opening a dog daycare and became a dog walker specialising in dogs with issues. I also started my search for land to create a safe, secure outdoor space.

What drives me is my heartfelt belief that there is no such thing as a bad dog, only misunderstood ones. The Field and The Glade, and our vision is changing this perception by allowing owners to see the true dog, not the scared or reactive one. Our secure dog parks let dogs be themselves. I believe every dog should be allowed to run, play, jump, roll, bark, chase, and be happy. I will do everything I can to ensure that.

My love for dogs began as a child, walking my grandparents' Yorkshire Terriers, Lady and Benji. During school holidays, my cousin and I would spend hours playing with them in the grass field that later became the Balloan Park shopping complex in Inverness. We often wondered if we could have a job playing with dogs all day. Spoiler alert: it's pretty cool!

I always knew I wanted dogs when I grew up, but timing was tricky. When I had time, I lacked money, and when I had money, I lacked time. This led me to fostering, which balanced commitment perfectly. Dogs came for "holidogs" while en route to their forever homes.

In 2012, I adopted Miss Amber, a cheeky and confident pup, followed by Archie, a sensitive soul needing extra care, a year later. My journey with Archie highlighted the importance of modern training methods and proper guidance. It took years to undo the harm caused by outdated advice, but it inspired me to help other dog owners make informed decisions.

While working with Archie, I often walked in remote areas to avoid other dogs. A secure place like one of our dog parks would have been a game-changer, providing a safe space for Archie to relax and play without constant vigilance. Today, Archie is a happy, confident, and playful dog, thanks to our efforts. Every dog deserves to feel safe and happy, and I'm grateful to be able to provide that for others.
