FAQs

Practical questions, in plain language. If something here isn't covered, give us a ring.

Is the field actually secure?

That's for you to decide — bring your dog, walk the perimeter, have a proper look. We've put a lot in: the fenceline is roughly 2 metres high with coyote-style rollers on the top, so any climber that gets up there won't get purchase on the top wire and will roll back in. Top to bottom is lined in rabbit fencing — even small paws can't grip. Every angled beam is wrapped so it can't be run up. The rabbit fencing is dug in underground to thwart diggers. There are logs under every gate, closing the gap between the bottom of the gate and the ground.

If you have a known Houdini, please walk the perimeter on your first visit, especially anywhere a determined dog might use as a springboard. If you spot something we've missed, tell us — we'd much rather fix it than find out later.

Can I bring more than one dog?

Yes. Same household, no problem. Just enter the total number on the booking form and tell us a bit about each of them. Pricing is £10 for up to three dogs, then £2 per extra dog after that, up to a maximum of ten.

Can I bring friends with their dogs?

Yes — invite as many furry friends as you like, up to the ten-dog maximum. Just enter the total number on the booking form and tell us about all the dogs coming. If you've got a banned breed in the mix, see the banned breed terms page for the additional rules around that.

How far in advance can I book?

Up to 60 days. We'd suggest at least 10 days out if you can manage it, because popular weekends and evenings go fast. Last-minute slots tend to get posted on our Facebook page (The Field Inverness or The Glade Rothiemurchus), so keep an eye on those if you're flexible.

What's the cancellation policy?

You can reschedule or cancel up to 24 hours before your slot, no problem — the booking system handles it. Inside 24 hours, the computer says no, and you'd need to give us a call. We try to be reasonable about genuine emergencies, but the 24-hour rule is the rule.

My dog isn't great with recall yet — is that ok?

More than ok. Honestly, that's one of the main reasons people come. The whole point of a fenced field is that recall failures don't matter — your dog's not going anywhere. It's the perfect place to practise, with a long line if you want, and treats, and no consequences when it doesn't quite land yet.

My dog is reactive. Is that ok?

Yes, and you're far from alone. The slot is yours exclusively — no other dogs are sharing it. Just make sure both gates are locked behind you, and you've got an hour of zero surprises. Plenty of our regulars are here precisely because everywhere else is too unpredictable.

Can I bring a banned breed?

Yes, at The Field, with some conditions to keep our insurance happy. Your dog needs to be registered on the Index of Exempted Dogs, neutered, microchipped, and have its own public liability insurance. Lead and muzzle stay on through the carpark and into the field, and only come off once the inner gate is locked behind you. If you're mixing households, the banned breed stays muzzled and on a lead throughout, with its own 1:1 adult handler. Full terms are on the banned breed page.

Which field is right for my dog?

Depends what you're after. The Field is over four acres of open grass with agility kit, a sensory area, and three shelters — closer to Inverness, has a (temperamental) tap. Better for dogs who love a zoom and a structured bit of fun. The Glade is three acres of woodland and copse — pine, moss, sticks, mystery. No water source on site, but better for dogs who'd rather sniff than sprint. Both are fenced to the same standard.

What if it's raining?

You bring waterproofs and come anyway. Both fields have shelters for when it really comes down, and the dogs frankly don't care about rain. You might. Layers are your friend — four seasons in a day, every day.

What if I'm late?

There's only a 15-minute buffer between slots, so don't be — but if something's gone properly wrong, give us a ring. Slots can't be extended into someone else's time, so being late just shortens your own slot, not theirs.

Are kids welcome?

Yes — the fences mean they can't escape either. Anyone responsible for a dog needs to be 16 or over, but younger kids are welcome along to play and explore. Plenty of benches and shelters for the grown-ups to use as base camp.

My dog has been sick recently — can we come?

Wait at least 48 hours after the last episode before you come. We're trying to keep the whole pack healthy, and a cough or a runny tummy can travel further than you'd think. If you've already booked and your dog is poorly, just reschedule — that's what the system is for.

I've never used a what3words address before — what do I do?

Open Google Maps or the what3words app and type the three words in (spurring.nipping.tooth for The Field). It drops a pin within three metres of the gate. If you'd rather use a postcode, we'll have one on the page once we've nailed down the address details.
