The Private Inverness Dog Park Alternative: A Secure Field You Hire

The Field Inverness is a private, fully-fenced dog park you hire by the hour. It's a secure field for reactive dogs, anxious or antisocial pups, rescue dogs still finding their feet, and any owner who'd like an hour of dog walks in Inverness without keeping one eye on the gate. Public dog parks are open to anyone, anytime, and the fence is anyone's guess. Ours is the opposite — booked by the hour, exclusive to you, and built to keep the most determined escapee in.

We're Shell and Lynn. We've both stood at a gate wondering if the latch is properly closed. That's why we built this. So you can stop wondering, put the lead away, and actually watch your dog have a brilliant hour.

Why it's safer than a public park

The infrastructure that makes the field actually secure — not just a field with a fence around it.

Built to keep climbers in

Two-metre perimeter fencing topped with coyote-style rollers. If a climber makes it up, they won't get purchase — they roll back in. Owners of high-jumping breeds can let them off-lead without watching the fence.

Diggers don't get under

Rabbit-style fencing dug deep underground around the whole perimeter, with heavy logs fitted under every single gate to close the bottom gaps entirely. The fence goes down, not just up.

Low-slip surfaces, year-round

WALKSURE® low-slip decking on all ramps and activity platforms — the same high-spec material used by commercial attractions like Edinburgh Zoo. Senior dogs, dogs in recovery, and post-op dogs can use the equipment without worrying about the Scottish weather.

280 metres of unobstructed running

Over 280 metres (919 feet) of completely unobstructed off-lead running space — proper distance for sight-hounds, racing breeds, and anything with energy to burn.

Empty carpark, every time

Our strict 15-minute safety buffer zone between appointments guarantees you an empty carpark and absolute privacy with zero surprise passers-by. Arrive on time and the field is genuinely yours.

What you're hiring

Just over four acres of fenced field — about 280 metres from the front gate to the back, so plenty of space to lose yourself in. A private carpark inside the same fence line, so the dog stays secure from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Three shelters, two park benches, and a picnic table dotted around the field, all giving you a view of the lay of the land and somewhere to sit when the rain decides to start.

By the entrance gate there's a toy box — bring your own, but if you've forgotten, there's plenty in there to borrow. It doubles as our lost and found and houses two first aid kits (one for dogs, one for humans), an accident book, and a list of local vet numbers. Call us if you've had a mishap so we can top it up.

The Sensory Area

First part of the field you walk through, and the slowest. Built for sniffing, not sprinting. The whole area is designed for mental enrichment — a game of sprinkles, a check of the pee-mails, a wander through unfamiliar textures. Perfect for senior dogs out for a stroll at their own speed, for new pups and rescues working their way through a socialisation list, and especially for our much-loved passport pooches.

Try out the textures underfoot on the Dancefloor. Have a dig in the sand boxes. Practise crossing the wee purple bridge, climbing the steps, or walking under them. Sniff the planter boxes — every plant in there has been thoroughly researched and is safe to nibble. We've ruled out common herbs (linalool's toxic, if your dog's a muncher) and a few others that can be dodgy with underlying conditions. Plant tags are still on, so you can look anything up on your phone.

The Adventure Zone

Halfway up the field on the left. Two parts to it, and you can do as much or as little as you like.

The agility jumps

Kennel Club approved, bright orange and white (you can't miss them). If your pup is still growing, getting on a bit, or starting to develop underlying conditions, drop the poles to the ground and use the stands. Same brain workout, no vet bill later.

the fun-zone tower, ramps and zig-zag walkway at The Field

The fun zone

A large tower with four low-slip ramps, a zig-zag walkway for balance work, a log bump walkway with different textures underfoot, a ramp jump for the more adventurous, and a ramp-raised-walkway-ramp for confidence at height. All the equipment is professionally built, sturdy enough for the biggest dogs and low enough for the little ones. Some of it's reminiscent of the physio exercises vets give to dogs in recovery. Can you complete the circuit?

Somewhere to sit, somewhere to shelter

Three shelters, two park benches, one picnic table, spread the length of the field. Shade for the dog on warm days, a roof when it rains, and an elevated point of view for surveying the lay of the land. Useful for the humans too — four seasons in one day in the Highlands, and The Field sees them all.

Have a walk round before you let them off-lead

Everything above is what we've built in. It's still up to you to decide if the field is secure enough for your dog. We've thought of a lot, but there's always a chance of a dog who'll outsmart us — so please walk the perimeter on your first visit, especially if you have a highly-skilled Houdini. If you spot something we've missed, tell us. We'd much rather hear it than find out later.

The carpark has the same safety measures as the field itself. Lock both gates behind you and no-one else can get in — unless you've invited them.

A couple of Field-specific things

There's a tap at The Field — temperamental, mind, and meant for filling drinking bowls for thirsty dogs, not paddling pools or luxury mud baths. Please turn it off after use.

In autumn the carpark rains conkers, which are not dog-friendly. Worth keeping the dog on a lead through the carpark in conker season.

Banned breeds welcome

Banned breeds are welcome at The Field

The Field is one of the few secure parks in the area covered to take exempted banned breeds — including XL Bullies — under our insurance terms. The dog needs to be IED-registered, neutered, microchipped, and have its own public liability insurance, and there are specific rules around muzzles and handling. Full terms on the banned breeds page.
