The Glade, Rothiemurchus

Three acres of secure woodland in the Cairngorms. Pine, damp moss, the smell of proper forest, and a fence around the lot of it. Every stick is a treasure. Every rustle deserves a bark.

What you're hiring

Around three acres, fenced top to bottom, with a private carpark inside the same perimeter. Mostly woodland and copse — a different beast from The Field. Quieter. Wilder. Better for dogs who'd rather sniff than zoom, or zoom in shorter bursts between sniffs. One shelter for when the weather turns, and perching logs scattered around the Glade for sitting on (which the humans use too).

No water source on site, so bring your own for both of you. The trees give plenty of shade in summer and plenty of shelter the rest of the year, but it's still woodland — keep an eye on what's overhead in a wind.

The Woodland

Back of the park. A proper run through the trees, where every stick is a treasure and every rustle deserves a bark. The kind of place that makes dogs feel like pioneers and humans feel like they've stepped into a storybook. Roots, moss, and the occasional fallen log to clamber over. Most dogs treat it like an expedition. Most owners do too.

The Copse

photo — the Copse: pine, moss, quieter section

A quieter grove than the Woodland — paws crunch twigs, noses chase the wind. Pine, damp moss, mystery. The kind of place that's good for a slow wander or a sudden burst of zoomies, depending on what the dog's in the mood for. Plenty of cover, plenty of new smells, plenty of corners to investigate.

Somewhere to sit, somewhere to shelter

One shelter — useful when the rain decides to start, and it will. Perching logs are scattered around the Glade, which double as rest stops with a view and as fun jumps for the dogs. Four seasons in a day in the Highlands, and The Glade sees them all.

As secure as we've been able to make it

Same standard as The Field. It's up to you to decide if the park is secure enough for your dog — please walk the perimeter on your first visit, especially if you have a known Houdini.

The fenceline is roughly 2 metres high with coyote-style rollers on top, lined top to bottom in rabbit fencing, dug in underground to stop diggers tunnelling out, with logs under every gate closing the gap to the ground. Angled beams are wrapped behind rabbit fencing so they can't be run up. Any potential springboard lands a determined escapee in the carpark, which is fenced to the same standard. Lock both gates behind you and you're set.

One thing specific to The Glade — we're extremely aware of the wildfire risk in a woodland setting, so please leave any cigarettes, vapes, and batteries in the car. There's more on this in the small print.
